3D Printing Turnaround Time at Hoosier3D — How Long Does It Actually Take?

Most orders at Hoosier3D are completed in 2–5 business days. Simple single parts can be ready the next day. Large batches or complex multi-part projects typically run 5–10 business days. You get a specific timeline when you request a quote — no guessing, no vague "allow 2–3 weeks."

At Hoosier3D in Indianapolis, most 3D printing orders are fulfilled in 2–5 business days, with no shipping wait for local customers — significantly faster than national online print services when total delivery time is factored in.

What Affects Turnaround Time?

Not every print job takes the same amount of time. Here are the four main factors that determine how long your order will take.

Part Size

Larger parts take more print time. A small bracket might print in 45 minutes. A large enclosure or housing could run 8–12 hours or more. If you have flexibility on size, breaking a large part into smaller pieces can sometimes speed things up.

Quantity

Printing one part and printing 50 parts are completely different jobs. A single part might be done overnight. A batch of 50 requires scheduling across multiple print runs, and that takes time to coordinate — even with two machines running simultaneously.

Complexity

Parts with intricate geometry, heavy support structures, or tight tolerances need extra attention — slower print speeds, more post-processing, and sometimes a second look before shipping. Multi-color prints through the AMS system also add setup and print time compared to single-color jobs.

Material

PLA and PETG are the go-to materials for most jobs and print quickly. TPU (flexible) and ABS are more finicky to print and require slower speeds and more temperature control, which adds time. If you need a fast turnaround and the material isn't critical, PLA or PETG is usually the right call. See materials options for more detail.

Typical Turnaround by Project Type

  • Small simple part (1–2 items): 1–2 business days
  • Medium functional part: 2–4 business days
  • Batch of 10–25 parts: 3–7 business days
  • Large batch (50–100 parts): 7–14 business days
  • Multi-color or complex part: 3–5 business days

These are typical windows, not guarantees. Your actual timeline depends on the current print queue and the specifics of your job. Quoting is free and fast — reach out to get a real number for your project.

The Local Advantage

National online 3D printing services can produce parts quickly. Some offer 2–3 day print times. What they can't do is hand you the parts the same afternoon.

When you order from a national service, you pay for print time plus shipping. That adds 3–5 days on average. Standard shipping from a Midwest warehouse to Indianapolis might be 2 days on a good week. If something needs to be reprinted, you lose another round trip.

Hoosier3D is in Indianapolis. Local customers can pick up their parts directly, which cuts total delivery time to just the print time. If your part is done Thursday morning, you can have it Thursday afternoon. That kind of turnaround is not possible with any online service, no matter how fast they print.

Even for customers outside Indianapolis, regional shipping within Indiana is typically one business day. You still save significant time compared to sending an order to a facility on the coasts.

For prototyping work or anything with a real deadline, local matters. See our rapid prototyping page and full services list for more on what Hoosier3D handles.

Rush Orders

If you have a hard deadline, contact Kraig directly before placing your order. Rush jobs are taken on when the print schedule allows, and a small premium typically applies to cover priority scheduling.

Have a trade show in three days? Call first. "I need this by Friday" is a lot easier to work with than a surprise order that shows up in the queue on Wednesday afternoon. The earlier you communicate a deadline, the more options there are.

How to Speed Up Your Order

A few things on your end can make a real difference in how fast your order moves through the queue.

  • Send a clean file. A print-ready file is all we need — check for obvious geometry issues before you send.
  • Specify your required delivery date when requesting a quote. Kraig schedules jobs based on deadlines. If you need it by a certain date, say so upfront.
  • Be flexible on material if your first choice is out of stock. PLA and PETG are almost always available. If you specified a specific color or material that isn't on hand, being open to substitutions can save a day or two.
  • Consolidate your order. If you have multiple parts, send them all at once rather than sending them in piecemeal.
